AI Settings

AI on/off, credits, own provider, and AI Writing Style.

DonorDesk uses AI to tag evidence, draft reports section by section and help you rewrite or regenerate text. You stay in control: numbers come from verified data, and people approve everything.

Turn AI on or off

Settings → Settings → AI-assisted reporting → AI enabled (Admin only). When AI is off, generating a report creates a blank draft for manual writing. Manual editing always works.

AI drafts and credits

Successful AI drafts use monthly credits from your plan (Starter 5, Team 20, Growth 100). Fallback drafts and failed runs are free, section regeneration is not billed, and you can buy top-up packs. See Plans and limits.

Bring your own AI provider (Growth and Enterprise)

If your organisation must use its own AI account, ask the DonorDesk team to connect your workspace to your provider. Drafts made with your own provider use no DonorDesk credits. Claude, Gemini and other supported providers can be used.

AI Writing Style (learns from your edits)

AI Writing Style lets DonorDesk notice how your team consistently edits AI-written text and offer to apply those preferences in future drafts.

  • It learns style only: tone, structure, terminology, formatting and length. It never learns numbers, dates, figures or facts.
  • It is off by default. Admins and Project Managers can turn it on with Learn from reviewer edits in Settings → AI Writing Style (this tab appears only when the feature is enabled for your workspace).
  • When a reviewer edits an AI-drafted section, DonorDesk looks at the change and, if a pattern repeats, shows a suggestion: the AI's original wording next to your team's edit, how often it happened, and a Why was this suggested? link.
  • You choose to Approve (and pick where it applies: all reports, this donor/template, or this section type) or Reject.
  • Approved preferences appear under Active style preferences, where you can Pause or Remove each one.
  • The settings tab shows a count when suggestions are waiting.

Nothing on this page can change what a report claims; it only changes how it is worded.

How the AI stays honest

  • Tables, charts and comparisons are computed from verified indicator data.
  • Any figure the AI writes that is not in your inputs is rejected before you see it.
  • Statements are checked against evidence and flagged if unsupported.
  • Sensitive and highly sensitive evidence is withheld from drafting.
