AI in DonorDesk

AI helps you write and organise faster. People stay in charge: they verify data, decide on flagged statements, edit and approve.

Where AI is used

Feature	What it does
Donor template extraction	Reads the donor's document, builds the outline (table of contents first), and extracts instructions, questions, tables and limits. Anything not found in the source is dropped.
AI Reporter	Drafts each report section from verified findings, following the template.
Section regenerate and Ask AI	Rewrites a section or selected text (rewrite, shorten, expand, donor-friendly).
Evidence tagging	Suggests tags, summaries and sensitivity warnings.
Activity narratives	Suggests a polished narrative from your summary.
AI Writing Style	Learns wording preferences from your team's edits (optional, style only).

How the report writer is kept honest

• Numbers are not written by the AI. Tables, charts, comparisons and percent-of-target are built from verified data.
• Any number in the AI's text that is not in your inputs is rejected before you see it.
• Each statement is compared with evidence and indicator data, and marked Matches evidence, Needs a decision, and so on.
• If a section fails or times out, a basic version is used and you are told why. The rest continues.
• Sensitive and Highly sensitive evidence is withheld from drafting.
• Every generation records the model and prompt version.

Providers

DonorDesk uses AI providers configured by the platform (several are supported). Growth and Enterprise workspaces can ask to use their own AI provider, in which case no DonorDesk credits are used.

Credits

Successful AI report drafts use monthly credits (Starter 5, Team 20, Growth 100). Fallbacks and section regeneration are not billed; top-up packs are available. See Plans and limits.

Control

• Turn AI off in Settings → Settings. Manual reporting always works.
• Review everything the AI writes before approving.
