Understanding Logframes
Goal, outcome, output, activity — the hierarchy explained.
A logframe (logical framework) is the results framework of your project: what you aim to change, how you will do it, and how you will know. DonorDesk uses it to organise indicators, evidence and report sections.
The four levels
| Level | Question | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | What long-term change do we contribute to? | Reduced child malnutrition in District X. |
| Outcome | What change do we expect among beneficiaries? | Improved feeding practices. |
| Output | What do we deliver? | 400 caregivers trained. |
| Activity | What do we do? | Counselling sessions. |
Each item has a code (OUT-1), a title and a parent. Items form a tree you can rearrange by drag-and-drop.
Indicators
Each item can have indicators: number, percentage, yes/no, text, ratio, currency or custom. Each has baseline, target, unit and frequency, and optionally data source and means of verification, disaggregation and a calculation rule. See Indicators and targets.
Why it matters
- The project is not reporting-ready without indicators.
- Evidence and activities link to indicators, which is how reports show proof.
- Verified indicator values feed the report's tables, charts and comparisons.
Getting one in
Import from Excel/CSV (download the template on the Logframe page) or build it by hand. See How to build a logframe.
