How to Use Comment Threads
Reply under a comment, resolve it, and reopen it.
A comment starts a conversation. Replies sit under it, so the discussion stays together, and the thread can be resolved when it is settled.
Start a thread
Open the item (a file, an indicator value, a report section, a problem, or a single statement in a report). Under Comments, write in Add a comment and select Add comment.
Reply
Select Reply under the comment you want to answer, write your reply and select Send reply. Replies appear under the first comment, oldest first.
Resolve or reopen
- Resolve closes the thread. DonorDesk shows who resolved it and when, for example "Resolved by User 1234abcd · 21 Oct 2026, 13:08".
- Reopen opens a resolved thread again. You cannot reply to a thread while it is resolved; reopen it first.
Who is told
- The person you mention.
- The person who started the thread, when someone replies.
- For a file, a problem, an activity or an indicator, the people responsible for it.
You are not told about your own comments.
Comments on a report statement
In a report's Statements tab, each statement has its own comments. Use them to discuss one sentence, for example to ask where a figure came from. The comments stay with the sentence's wording, so they are kept when the statement is checked again.
Good to know
- Threads go one level deep: you reply to the first comment, not to a reply.
- Names are not shown yet: people appear as a short code, for example "User 1234abcd".
- Comments cannot be edited or deleted after they are posted. Post a correction as a reply.
