How to Tell the Story and Add Report Inputs
Give the AI the context the numbers cannot.
Numbers do not explain themselves. Tell the Story (step 2 of the reporting workspace) is where you add the context that the AI uses to write a convincing report. Open the Data & story inputs page from ⋯ → Edit data & story in the editor or from the period workspace.
Report writers can edit it; others can read it.
The story questions
- What challenges did you face? What slowed or blocked the work.
- Why were important targets over or under achieved? The donor will ask about big gaps between target and result.
- What changed or was adapted? Changes to plans, locations or methods.
- Any important lesson or story? (optional) A short example makes the report memorable.
Changes save automatically. If you leave with unsaved changes you are warned.
Other inputs on the same page
- Indicator values – edit or import them (guide).
- Evidence – shows what is linked to the period; you are told if none is.
- Field reports and CSV – paste a field report (text from a DOCX/PDF) or CSV such as
Indicator code,Period achievement. DonorDesk proposes inputs that you confirm before anything is saved.
Before you generate
The launch card checks: indicator figures present, story written, evidence linked, and whether figures are verified. Unverified figures are still used but marked in the report.
If you change these inputs after a draft exists, the editor shows Inputs changed.
