How to Meet Your Donor's Requirements

See a donor's requirements against your project.

Donors often require specific sections, annexes and tables in a report, and sometimes ask for an explanation when a result falls well short of its target. DonorDesk checks for these and tells you what is missing.

Required annexes

If the donor's template lists a required annex, the report must have a section for it. If it does not, approval is blocked and the report names the annex that is missing. Add a section with that name to the report.

Requirement packs (for Admins)

An Admin can write down what a donor requires, as a list in Settings → Donor requirements:

  • One requirement per line, starting with its kind and a colon, for example SECTION: Executive summary or ANNEX: Indicator table.
  • End a line with ? to make it advisory rather than mandatory.
  • Lines beginning with # are comments.

Save it as a draft, check it, then select Activate. If a line cannot be read, the message names its line number; the other lines are kept.

Donor tables

If the donor requires a table with particular columns and a section does not have it, the section shows a warning that names the table. It is a warning, not a block: add the table to the section, or note why it is not needed.

Results far from target

On the closing report, an indicator that finished more than 20% below its target (or above, for indicators where lower is better) adds an item called Result to explain to the checklist. Explain the result in Tell the story, under Why were important targets over or under achieved?. The item closes when the explanation is saved.

Rates and indicators with no figure are not checked this way.
