How to Create a Project

Build a new project in your workspace.

A project is one funded grant or programme with one donor and one reporting cycle. Only Admins can create projects. Check that you have a free project slot on your plan (Plans and limits); archived projects do not count.

Step 1: Start the wizard

Click New project on Projects (or use the Create menu in the top bar). The wizard has three steps plus a review screen. Your progress is saved as a draft, so you can leave and come back.

Identity

  • Title and Project code (required; codes should be unique in your workspace)
  • Donor name
  • Implementing organization
  • Partner organization (optional)

Geography and dates

  • Country (required), Region and District (optional)
  • Sector – Nutrition, Food security, WASH, Health, Protection, Education, Livelihoods, Shelter, Multi-sector or Other
  • Start date and End date

Reporting

  • Reporting frequency – Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-annual, Annual, Final or Custom
  • Budget amount and currency (optional)
  • Primary contact (optional) and Description

Review your answers and create the project.

Step 2: Finish setup

After creation you land on the project's Setup checklist. It tells you exactly what is still needed to start reporting:

  1. Project workspace folder – created for you in Google Drive in the background (see Connect Google Drive).
  2. Donor template – upload and approve one.
  3. Logframe and indicators – build or import them.
  4. Reporting profile – language, tone and rules for this project (defaults come from your organisation).
  5. Team assignment (recommended) – assign members on the project's Team tab.

Each item has a Set up button, and Blockers lists anything holding you back with a Fix link. When everything is green the status is Ready and you can Mark setup complete and create a reporting period.

You can keep working on evidence, activities and the logframe while setup is unfinished.

Project pages

A project has these tabs: Reporting, Overview, Logframe, Activities, Evidence, Templates, Team and Settings.

Edit or end a project

Settings lets you edit details, dates and budget and set the status (Active, Paused, Completed). See How to archive a project.

Try it safely first

The Academy demo project is a complete sample project that you can explore, and it does not count toward your limits. See Academy tour.
