How to Log Progress and Finish an Activity

Record progress on a planned activity and finish it in one step, even offline.

Use this when a planned activity is under way and you want to record what has been reached, or when it has finished.

Log progress

Open the planned activity and go to Progress. The breakdown fields come from the indicators the activity reports on: tick those indicators in Progress first, and each group target becomes a field (for example, Women and Girls under 5).

Choose how often you are logging:

  • Daily, weekly or monthly. Enter the figures for that period.
  • A monthly entry replaces the daily and weekly entries inside that month, so the month's total is never counted twice.
  • A week cannot cross a month end. Logging a day you already saved edits that day.

A field you leave blank stays blank. It is never counted as zero, and the report says "not recorded".

Finish an activity with Done

  1. Open the planned activity, or find it on the list, and choose Done.
  2. Enter the day it finished. It defaults to today.
  3. Optionally enter the people reached and a note, and attach files.
  4. Save. DonorDesk saves the completed activity and the status together, so a failure leaves the activity open rather than marked done with nothing behind it.

The day you enter is the day the work finished, so a late activity shows how late it was ("done 4 days late").

If you are offline

You can choose Done or log progress with no connection. DonorDesk keeps the entry on your device and sends it when the connection returns. Each entry is sent once. If the server refuses an entry later (for example, the reporting period is closed), it waits on your device for someone to look at it; it is not sent again by itself.

Who can do this

Anyone who leads or helps with the activity can log progress and choose Done. Project Managers, M&E Officers and Admins can also change the plan itself.
